Sanusi Emerges The New Emir Of Kano

sanusi_traditional_attire

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the expelled Central Bank of Nigeria Governor has emerged as the new Emir of Kano.

Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who made the announcement this afternoon, said the former Central Bank Governor was edged by four kingmakers from the Kano Emirate.
The recently ousted Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was turbaned as the Dan Majen Kano last two years by the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
The history of Dan Majen Kano title in the hierarchical traditional titles of the traditional institution of Kano Emirate dates back to the 16th century, exactly in 1509 when the then Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Kisoki appointed the first Dan Maje, that is, Dan Maje Ummaru.
This title continued to exist up to the time.Kano fell under the authority of colonialists after its invasion and from that time to date, Sanusi is the 10th Dan Maje of Kano.
Dan Maje title is 21st in the hierarchy in the over 60 District Heads and title holders in the Kano Emirate after the Magajin Gari title and followed by of Dan Kadai who is the 22nd in the hierarchy.
It is believed that since 1882 Dan Maje title was the 17th title in the order of office precedence, following the Barden Kano title which is the 16th and followed by Dan Makwayo.
Maje means ‘sarki’ or Emir and ‘Dan’ means son of, therefore, Dan Maje means son of the emir which literally means a prince. For this reason therefore, the title of Dan Maje is exclusively reserved to only people with royal blood.
The holder of this title’s primary responsibility in the Kano Emirate is to safeguard peoples’ wealth, integrity and protect their lives in addition to serving them diligently and protecting the religion, culture and traditions of the people.
Sanusi’s predecessors from 1920 to date include: Zakari Dan Sarkin Kano Abbas, Shehu Ahmad, Ahmed Gwadabe Dan Sarkin Kano Alu, Mahmud Bayero, Muntari Zakari, Sayyadi Mahmud, Aminu Ado Bayero, Tijjani Abubakar, Yusuf Ibrahim and now Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
The unique thing about the newly appointed Dan Maje is that, “From his mother’s side he was a grandson of Alkali Ummaru II of Fulata Barno from the Zarawa Clan who were famous Islamic Scholars, holding the titles of Chief Imams of Kano and Islamic judges right from the time of Emir of Kano, Ibrahim Dabo when the clan leader, Muhammad Zara became the chief Imam of the state.

How Misdiagnosis by Doctors in the US killed Dora Akunyili

10271626_544111909032730_47685920420314697_n (1)
According to a new report by the Cable,Professor Dora Akunyili’s death was caused by a misdiagnosis way back in 1998…So sad…The report reads…
When Mrs Dora Nkem Akunyili was the Zonal Secretary (South-east) of the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund in 1998, Nigerian doctors gave her what many of her family members considered to be a health scare. They said she had a growth and needed surgery. Akunyili, then 44, decided to travel to the United States, first to get a second opinion and then undergo the prescribed surgery.
The bill for the medical trip was $17,000, including $12,000 for the surgery. During pre-surgery check-up in the US, the doctors told her the Nigerian doctors had made a wrong diagnosis and that she did not need any surgery. It was said to be a minor issue that medication would solve. She thanked the doctors and, to their surprise, said she was going to return the money meant for the surgery to PTF.
That was strange. Nigerian government officials had devised a way of making sure such monies were not returned to the treasury. The hospital informed the PTF, under the leadership of Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, about one honest Nigerian they had found. Buhari, himself a straightforward person, was very impressed. He wrote a letter to Akunyili commending her honesty.

NAFDAC

Then came 2001. President Olusegun Obasanjo wanted to appoint a director-general for the National Agency for Drug and Food Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and asked for the recommendation of an honest Nigerian pharmacist. Akunyili’s name promptly came up. Someone who had heard about her PTF record recommended her. There was a little problem, a Nigerian problem. Objections were raised that the minister of health, Prof. ABC Nwosu, was an Igbo from Anambra State and NAFDAC, being a powerful agency under the ministry, should not be headed by another Igbo from Anambra. It was also argued that the market for fake and substandard products were controlled by the Igbo, with Onitsha – also in Anambra State – a major centre for the illicit business. She was going to protect “her people”, the antagonists said. Obasanjo, stubborn to the cause,  ignored the observations and appointed her.
She went on to do a credible job and ended up as one of the most outstanding public officers in Nigeria’s history, celebrated locally and globally. She had lost a sister to fake drugs, and that was perhaps the impetus she needed to go on the offensive. Misdiagnosis Meanwhile, Akunyili always went abroad for check-ups and she was always given an all-clear. She continued to look robust and energetic, and took up another government job as minister of information and communications. But on July 13, 2013, something strange happened to her. She was preparing to travel to the United States to receive an award. The following day was her birthday. Her 59th, precisely.
Then she fell ill. She was physically weak and having pains. She decided to go ahead with her trip and attend to her health in the United States. It was while she was there that new checks were carried out. Alas, she had cancer. The original diagnosis in 1998 was right. But the diagnosis at the point of surgery was wrong. She became seriously ill and there were fears she could lose her life. She was in the hospital for months and only returned to Nigeria this year when the doctors said she was improving. Her last public appearance was at the National Conference in Abuja, where she was a delegate. Pictures of a frail-looking Akumyili soon went viral on the internet. TheCable could not ascertain the type of cancer, but there are several reports pinpointing cervical – and some claim it was ovarian. Globally, cervical cancer is the second most common and the fifth deadliest cancer in women, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Akunyili died on June 7, 2014 in India after surviving many death rumours.

Photo: Police Parade Arrested Biafran Group Members Who Tried to Declare Biafra Yesterday in Enugu

BIAFRA-MEN
A photo of the Biafra Zionist Movement members, BZM, led by Barrister Benjamin Onwuka, who yesterday launched an attack on the Enugu State Broadcasting Service, ESBS, has been released.

According to reports,  Onwuka, a United Kingdom-based lawyer, armed with a CD Rom for a broadcast to declare a “Republic of Biafra”, had yesterday, as early as 4:30am, sneaked his members, numbering about 20, into the premises of the radio station where he intended to broadcast the rebirth of the Republic of Biafra.

They had chased out the security men and entered the studio where they met a handful of employees who were on night shift. But because the radio station was going through challenges, every gadget was switched off. They were on the verge of forcing some technical employees to switch on the gadgets when they were stopped by a four-man police patrol team who stormed the scene. A gun battle ensued and in the process, a police sergeant and a member of the group lost their lives while a police inspector was injured.

Police sources said Onwuka and 12 members of his group who were paraded were arrested by a team of security operatives who gave them a hot chase while they were trying to escape into Independence Layout of the Coal City.

It would be recalled that same group had claimed responsibility for the attack on Government House, Enugu on March 8 holding the place to ransom for nearly four hours.

Shocking Story- 3 year old girl stolen in Lagos while asleep with family at night(Photo)

Blessing-Anani-and-Akuvi-360x270

Life is hard for Sojine Anani and his wife, Akuvi, a Togolese couple who came to settle in Nigeria about 10 years ago. This was immediately obvious right from the entrance of the cemented red-brick bungalow they live in on a street in Shasha, Akowonjo area of Lagos.
The Ananis live in a small one-room apartment with their three young children. But between 2am and 4am on Monday, May 26, 2014, night marauders came calling in their home when Akuvi’s husband was away at work in Apapa area of Lagos.Their target was one single thing; the couple’s three-year-old daughter, Blessing. On Sunday (May 25) Sojine left for work in Apapa. By nightfall, his young wife and three children went to sleep, in the same room. But by morning, the girl among the children was missing.Akuvi, a trader in her 20s told Punch

I woke up around 2am to plug our rechargeable lamp when electricity came on. Two of my children slept on the bed beside me while Blessing slept on the floor on a mat.I went back to sleep and I remember Blessing was exactly where she was on the floor when we all went to bed in the night. By 4.30am, I woke up because it was my turn to sweep our compound.

“The first thing I noticed was that the drawer where I keep my children’s clothes was pulled out and placed on the floor. I put on the light and realised my daughter was gone.I went to the window after I checked the door and what I saw made me scream,
I wish I did not come to Nigeria for a better life. My life is finished now, my child is gone.My life is over, I can’t stand this agony. I never knew a child could be stolen while asleep in her own house in the middle of the night. I knew thieves break in to steal money and other valuables, but I never heard of thieves breaking in to steal a child. This is unfair. I don’t even feel safe again. The police are not helping at all. Had I known, I would have stayed back in Togo. I am finished.I am all alone. My husband, who is supposed to be here is suffering in jail. Police are not even telling me anything. Where would I search for my child? I cannot sleep or shut my eyes, all I see is the face of my girl and I cannot stop thinking about what is happening to her.
Blessing is still missing and her father is languishing in police custody. All these have compounded Akuvi’s agony. Her relations told our correspondent that they feared for her mental health because she had remained inconsolable since the incident and had started acting sometimes like she is not in her right senses.
The police claimed she used an unothordox method to find the person that stole her baby. She was said to have taken the suspect to a seer’s house, an offence responsible for her husband’s detention.
My children are suffering because their father has been locked up by the police. He is the breadwinner. Why are the police doing this to us? Why are they making us suffer more?”I am confused, I don’t know what is happening to me. I can’t find my daughter and police has detained my husband in cell,”
At the backyard of the house in which the Ananis live is a detached single room apartment, inhabited by an indigene of Calabar, Cross River State, a man called Sunny.Sunny’s room is adjacent the Ananis’ window. But that was not the reason Akuvi suddenly stood up that day and went to drag their neighbour out of his room, accusing him of stealing her child.
She said,
“Sunny always joked with my daughter in my presence that he would take her away. Few days before she went missing, a man visited him. Both the stranger and Sunny sat at the backyard. But when the man saw my daughter, he asked me if she was mine and I said, yes. He simply said she was a good girl. But when the man left, I had to ask Sunny’s wife who the man was. She said she was her husband’s relation. It was strange the way he tried to get information about my daughter. But I did not think it was anything.I had to hold on to Sunny when my child went missing simply because he always talked about my daughter.”
One of Akuvi’s relations said..
“We wanted to try everything before it was too late to get the child back. The police visited but did not seem to be doing much about finding the child. So, we took Sunny to a seer’s house.
When we got there, the seer said the person who stole the child was an insider. We left the place and asked Sunny to take us to the house of his friend who visited days before. When we got to a house he took us to, he changed his mind and said it was not the place. He took us to another place and said he was not sure that was where he lived. When he took us to a third place and he seemed to be deceiving us, people who followed us started to beat him. But the police arrived and took him away.”
But a group of the Ananis’ relations and neighbours showed up at the Shasha Police Division, calling on the police to do something fast about the missing child.Nine of them were rounded up including the victim’s father and a nursing mother with her baby. The Divisional Police Officer, Nwachukwu Eburuaja, ordered them detained..On Monday, our correspondent learnt that the policemen investigating the matter at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos said Sojine and neighbours detained with him would not be released until he had paid N220,000.
Our correspondent was told Sojine and his family could hardly afford decent three square meals in a day.
When our correspondent relayed the accusation of extortion against the police to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ngozi Briade, she swung into action and contacted the authorities of the SCID.
Braide explained that the father of the victim along with the other detainees were accused of “trial by ordeal.”
She said,
“When the family reported the abduction, the police went in and questioned the parents of the abducted child. But later, we learnt they took a neighbour they suspected of being responsible for the abduction to a native doctor, who said the man was the culprit. That is illegal; we call that trial by ordeal in law.
“Later, police were alerted to an attempt to lynch the suspected man. A team intervened, rescued the man and arrested those responsible for the attempted lynching and trial by ordeal.”
Our correspondent provided her with the names of the policemen accused of demanding bribe for the release of the victim’s father and the other individuals.
But after making her findings, she said the accusation was denied by the concerned policemen. She said the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the SCID had been notified about the case and had promised that they would be released on Tuesday.

Timaya is ungrateful,I will never work with him again-K-Solo

K-Solo and Timaya were once like Donjazzy and Dbanj,K-solo produced his first three albums. After that, they fell out.In a new interview with Punch,K-solo said
"Whatever you are doing and you feel it is gone; it will be waiting for you. No sinner will go unpunished. When I was his producer, I produced his first three successful albums that made him what he is today. He never came back to show gratitude; instead he is always fighting me. If I talked to him to tell him the right thing to do, he felt I had no right to tell him such because he felt he is a star. When I wanted to get married, he was among the people who mocked me. Now, he has a ‘baby mama.’ In life, when we don’t know the kind of death we would have, we shouldn’t laugh at people because we don’t know how our case would be.It is not as if I want to bring him down but I want you to know that nothing lasts forever.
It is what you do in life that keeps you going eventually. I was on top of my game before I had the crisis. We should not bite the finger that fed us. God has made me big. I don’t need his money. I can talk about him because I am very comfortable. I don’t pay rent but where he lives today is still a rented apartment even with all his money. We are not friends on the job. But if I see him on the road, I can say hi to him. If he decides to respond, it is fine but if he doesn’t, it is also fine. Davido bought a house for his producer the other day. It is not as if Davido is working fully with the producer anymore but he never forgot that the producer made his first hit.I don’t want anything from him, it is already late.No way! I will never be his producer ever again! I can only give him advice"
On Timaya being upset over Patoranking dumping him for a new label,he said.....

I learnt Timaya is upset about a young artiste called Patoranking. His songs are actually topping charts at the moment. He featured Timaya in one of his songs. I leant Timaya said he signed the boy on his label. I know it is a lie. Timaya doesn’t like paper work. I know that about him. The boy was picked up by another record label and I learnt Timaya is upset about it and saying nonsense about the boy. Why didn’t he sign the boy? He just shot a video for the boy and the new label, as I learnt, is even ready to pay him what he spent but I learnt he refused the money.
I was the one that discovered the boy at Ebutte Meta. Till now, the boy has an album in my studio. I had released one or two songs for him and I was about to release more when I had the crisis with my ex. Timaya came to my studio and saw the boy. I don’t know how it happened but they left my studio. I didn’t even mind because when I had that issue, I had to let go of everybody around me. So immediately, Timaya did a song with him and shot the video without any form of agreement. Now, he is saying the boy is an ingrate.

Rise In Fees: LASU Students Storm Fashola’s Office With Beds & Pots

After eight of LASU students who were involved in one of their protests on Tuesday were arraigned before an Ikeja chief magistrate’s court for alleged breach of public peace by Police, students in their hundreds yesterday around 3:00pm matched to the governor’s office and barricaded the entrance with two BRT buses and other vehicles they came with.
They danced, lay their beds on the floor and set up traditional cooking stove where they cooked beans for themselves and sang solidarity songs.
Private security men at the entrance quickly locked up the gate preventing them from entering and alerted police officers attached to Area F police command who quickly drafted to the scene to forestall any damage to government’s property.

The union President, Nurudeen Yusuf, when approached said the peaceful protest was a citizen’s right as enshrined in the constitution. He urged the Governor to meet the demand of the students and reduce the tuition fee, as they would not relent in their struggle and demanded the immediate release of their colleagues who are in cell.
